Meet The Artist
Benedetta Orsi – Sara, Duchess of Nottingham
What has been the greatest thrill in your career thus far? Greatest challenge?
The greatest thrill in my career was performing Giovanni in Anna Bolena with Opera Seria. It is one of my favourite roles. The energy, the passion and the adrenaline during the rehearsal times – and the opening night, waiting hidden behind the curtains during the overture – was incredible.
But in my career, the biggest change was during the summer of 2009. While I was on holiday in Puglia, Italy, I met the person who gave me the possibility to start singing in USA. The United States of America has been my greatest challenge.
Do you have any favourites? Composer? Opera? Role? Venue?
Each composer, with his own style and genre, has something deep that manage to convey through his music and his works. I don’t really have a favourite composer. I love Donizetti as much as Verdi, and my favourite operas are Anna Bolena, as said before, and Il Trovatore. The first one for the passion that comes out each note and the second one for Azucena’s strong feelings and suffering . One of the role that I like and would love to perform is Eboli in Verdi Don Carlos and I hope one day to sing at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
You’re from Italy originally, but have sung with us several times in the UK. Do you enjoy performing in the UK?
I love performing in the UK. Italy is my home and always in my heart, but I also feel at home when I’m in England and I’m thrilled every time I get to sing here.
